Q&A with 2018 NACUFS Regional Director Candidates

Get to Know 2018’s NACUFS Southern Region Presidential Candidates

 

With the NACUFS Southern Regional Conference just a few days away, I wanted to ask the three candidates about their positions at their university, their experience with NACUFS, what the greatest tool being involved has provided for them, and what they hope to accomplish in their new role as Regional Director-Elect.

Bryan Varin - University of Georgia

 

Bryan Varin – University of Georgia

Bryan has been with the University of Georgia for 16 years and currently serves as the Executive Director.

He has served UGA in a variety of positions in their dining program, utilizing his culinary background throughout his time there.

He has served NACUFS as the Southern Region Vice President, Culinary Challenge Chair, as well as a committee member for various conferences.

What are the best tools that NACUFS has provided you?

“Networking and sharing ideas with operators and industry partners in an effort to elevate the college dining experience. Also, educational opportunities through NACUFS Institutes have benefited me greatly and provided opportunities to grow and learn skills that allow me to better serve my campus and team members.”

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role as Regional Director-Elect?

“My goals would be to focus on fostering a collaborative and supportive environment between operators and vendors, promote membership growth, and increase educational opportunities for member institutions within the Southern Region.”

Spiros Vergatos - Vanderbilt University

 

Spiros Vergatos – Vanderbilt University

 

Spiros is the Director of Operations and he is responsible for 2 dining halls, 3 specialty restaurants, 6 retail markets, athletic dining. He has been with Vanderbilt Dining for 19 years. He has been involved with many NACUFS conferences and helped develop the first NACUFS C-Store Retail Workshop, as well as facilitating the workshop for 8 years.

What are the best tools that NACUFS has provided you?

“The opportunity to meet and discuss with my peers numerous issues and concerns without feeling that we are in competition with each other.”

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role as Regional Director-Elect?

“To continue to help evolve the future of NACUFS.”

Greg Crawford - Georgia Southern University

Greg Crawford – Georgia Southern University

 

Greg is the Director of Residential Dining and he oversees the operations of two facilities that boast over 8,500 entries a day. He has been with Eagle Dining Services for 11 years and has overseen catering operations and served as Assistant Director over retail operations. He has attended various NACUFS conferences and Director Symposiums.

What are the best tools that NACUFS has provided you?

“The best tool that NACUFS has provided me is the opportunity to meet and network with other food service professional.  The time spent with colleagues and learning best practices, trends and challenges has helped me grow professionally.”

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role as Regional Director-Elect?

“To assist NACUFS in continuing to provide the necessary tools to allow the continued growth of college and university food service programs.  It is my hope that I will be able to bring a level dedication and enthusiasm to our association and continue its great success.”
